Elder brother?! [He starts, trying to get up as fast as Higekiri makes for the sword.] Be careful, we don't know if it's saf--!
[Though it's not that he knows what will happen so much as it's simply bizarre for Mikazuki Munechika to be carelessly lying about on the sex boat in their room with no rhyme or reason. (Much like real life minus the sex boat.) The barrier goes up, and he scrambles to grab his sword, but doesn't draw.
There's pieces he hadn't known fitting into place. The understanding melds from Higekiri's memories into him, and he thinks he also may get what it means, If it were me, I wonder if I would have done any differently. And he can't say he would have for certain, even if he he likes to think he would obey their master without err.
His vision returns with the feeling of his palm lightly rubbing the center of his chest, bewildered by the strange feeling inside of it.]
Mikazuki-sama... Elder brother, you...

higekiri blinks as he recalls that - and then faces back to hizamaru without so much as a shred of guilt on his face]
Oh... right.
We had a very good conversation.
[IT WAS HIGEKIRI LARPING OUT JIJI'S FEELINGS]

I hope you didn't offend Mikazuki-sama. [It didn't seem like it, though.] His feelings... You really did understand them, didn't you, elder brother?
When we thought... I know he should not tamper with history, but even so...

[and yet higekiri gets unhappy when someone tries to ruffle him??? he and jiji truly kin,,
but regardless at the question, he's going to pause for a moment before offering up a smile]
... we allowed Yoshitsune to live, did we not? For him and Benkei to both travel to the north, to start life there and cast his old one behind... That is not history as most know it - and yet I do not think it was a mistake.
Moments like that... I think they are what myths are made of. And I do not mind the occasional, harmless myth.

Do you think... the ones who seemed to have been here before us, if they are trying to make it a little happier for us, too...?
[But before he can even glance up for any answer, they're hit again gently from his side.
Higekiri remembers this feeling, no, this being. Cold all around, but not a harsh or angry cold. A respectable, elegant cold, like the cold of steel. Because that's what Higekiri is again, nothing except well-crafted, regal steel, a blade.
Inside, though, there is a spirit, burning fiercely. It's somewhat quiet, a timid one with a fortitude waiting to be rallied. A demure one that sometimes aches near the tip when the weather is bad.
And somewhere close by is another spirit, a familiar one to Higekiri. It's proud and beautiful, honored to be given as a gift after cutting the neck of a criminal so well. And there's a man, perhaps no more than one just out of boyhood with them both. It's good. How Higekiri feels is... satisfied, safe, as if this is belonging.
But the man is giving the other spirit away, and Higekiri can feel the uncertainty and the fear rise up inside. It's a very honorable thing, being gifted away to a new master. It should be. Yet a hint of protectiveness, of worry flutters all about the spirit inside Higekiri. The other spirit soon feels so far away, out of reach, so much colder, and then it is gone.
And Higekiri feels lonesome and unsure, a little lost. He wonders if he had done something wrong, if there was a better chance at saying goodbye. He wonders if there is somehow a way they will one day meet again.
He can't think of a name for it then since perhaps there hadn't been one. It whispers in his spirit now, however, Anija, Anija, very quietly.]

and higekiri is will and truly bewildered. mikazuki's blade is no longer in his hand, instead leaving it empty. so very empty. he blinks a few times - wondering exactly how familiar this feeling is meant to be. he presses his fingers into his own palm, just to ensure that he still has the hands of this human body to move.
once he is sure that he does, he turns to hizamaru again, reaching for his hand.
the expression on his face is one of an almost dawning understands - like he never quite learned before. what it felt, from hizamaru's view.]
... what a wanting younger brother I have.
[to always be reaching for him
and yet - ]
It is your side that I wish to be beside as well.
[ - it is a familiar feeling]

But he is still dutiful, and he reaches to take Higekiri’s hand, stepping close so they are chest to chest. He notches his head beside Higekiri’s, their cheeks and temples touching.]
I don’t feel whole when you aren’t nearby, elder brother. Like a piece of me is missing.
no subject
[he can't really remember because it's hard to say how much he cares - but regardless he'll just accept this. he lets his arms loop around hiza's waist as he keeps him close, offering up a soft smile]
Though... you know you are complete even without me, don't you?
