[He shakes his head though.] I'm alright. [And then he twines his arms around Higekiri's shoulders to give him another hug.]

I'm sorry about Dimitri-san, elder brother. And Kanesada-san. And about Illumi-san. I think I made a terrible error when I failed to remove the demon inside of Monika-san, and it is making things more difficult for us now.

I'm sorry I say it so often, elder brother. I only feel... I should have been able to stop it and because I didn't, it has made more trouble for us now.

[He gives Higekiri a squeeze and then loosens his arms a bit so he can lean his head back.]

I won't say it any longer if it bothers you. I should... be more like you and accept the consequences of my actions. It isn't a history I can change, yes? So I should move on. Yet seeing so many affected every week... again and again.

[ . . . and higekiri just shakes his head at that.]

You say it often because your heart is good. Because you carry the burden of responsibility so seriously, and because you endeavor to fulfill your purpose. It is... difficult, no? When we do not quite live up to our names.

[he knows - to a degree. how can he be onikiri when he's failed to cut a single demon in a month's time?]

[Gently, he lets his forehead rest against Higekiri's, his lashes lowering.]

Please don't talk so badly about yourself. Every name you have had, even if it has been so many you forget, has been a name you earned. They were all names worthy of you.

You're too good to me, elder brother. Thank you. When I forget sometimes to move forward because I am looking back, I am glad you are there to guide me. [He cups HIgekiri's face in his hands and lightly rubs their forehead before leaning back.] Please be careful and safe with Tamamo-san.

[ . . . and higekiri just pauses at that before letting his own hand come up to hizamaru's hair, tangling in and keeping him in place as higekiri presses a kiss to his forehead]

Each reassurance you have for me - I would like you to extend them to yourself as well. We have gone through many names because of the tales we have been in... but I think that who you are now is someone that is worth being proud of.

[he knows that he's proud?? this is the closest he's getting to saying so apparently

but at the mention of tamamo, he just laughs]

I will let her know - but you needn't worry. She and I always get along very well. [he sounds very fond?] I believe our souls are old friends.

[Nooooooooooooooo, he just ends up flushing very brightly and very fondly!! PRAISE! Not just any praise, but ANIJA praise! WOW! He tries to tuck his face down into Higekiri's hand a bit, enough to maybe hide his hot cheeks.]

As much as I would like to be the only one by your side... I'm glad. That you can find others here who entertain you, elder brother. Those who make you laugh and who you enjoy spending time with. [He's jealous a lil, but he's... soft! Seeing his brother happy.] Please don't tease them too badly...

[hizamaru is soft and higekiri looks proud of himself for that reaction. even if he's just going to try to turn into hige's hand, he's still going to get a smooch on his temple because hige is fond and amused]

Ahaha, no, I would much rather treat Tamamo kindly. Her face makes all sorts of endearing expressions, and if I work hard enough, her tails wag.

[He keeps right on being tomato red even when chancing a look to Higekiri. He nods to accept the words even if he isn’t sure quite yet if he deserves them. He’s getting there.]

I’ll be alright with you by my side.

[A pause.]

Are you okay, elder brother? How’s your chest feel...?

Mm... A little heavy, I think. Yet... I already had a feeling, so I cast my vote without regrets. I was ready to endure the burden regardless.

[whether illumi was a demon or not]

At the very least - we were able to discern what happened to Kanesan-san-chan.

[Lowering one of his arms, he smooths his palm over Higekiri's chest as if rubbing some consolation there. Like he can just wipe-on, wipe-off the strange human feelings of loss and grief and disappointment.]

I'm glad we were able to avenge Kanesada-san. But... I'm worried about the one we weren't able to catch. It was gruesome. Muzet-san...

[He shakes his head.]

Let's not worry too much for now. Tomorrow, we can begin again and try harder--together--to figure out where to go from here.

[it'd be so easy if they could just flick off unwanted emotions like they were blood on a blade - but at least higekiri seems to be taking this loss far more in stride than he did dimitri's.]

Mm... We can look into it and see what we can find tomorrow. I will find our other brother as well and we'll discuss the matter.

[he says this easily before pressing a kiss to hiza's cheek, aiming for reassuring]

For now, why not forget about the things we can't fix and have some fun? You have a... uh, date, don't you? Or would you prefer that I steal you away instead?

His fingers come up to brush gently over Higekiri's lips. He wants to kiss them, but he doesn't. Instead, he just stands and blushes, consumed with love for the remainder of the evening.]

Please don't be rude to Tamamo-san and leave her waiting for you, elder brother.

[Which is to say YES!!!! but he's a polite, good boy, and he knows they have already made plans they shouldn't disrupt.]

[hiza is good and polite!!! hige might've expected this answer but he's still pleased by it because it means that hizamaru is kind and respectable and those are good traits as well.

but just because hiza doesn't give a kiss that doesn't mean hige won't?? he'll catch hiza's wrist to hold it in place so he can press his lips against his fingertips briefly, then his palm, and then place his face right into the curve of it]

[Waaaah. He holds Higekiri's face as tenderly as possible, using his thumb to brush the cheek. It makes him shy and embarrassed, but whatever. He's not going to drop Higekiri's head.]
