You miss him, don't you?

[he speaks softly - wondering. higekiri and prompto were never close, and higekiri can't remember the last time that he actually mourned a human's death when they were fated to happen.... but it's different, watching hizamaru go through it in front of him]

[The question gets him to frown gently. He peers at Higekiri for a long moment without speaking, and then his face softens.]

He was a very good friend.

I understand why... it is dangerous for us to speak with them when we are on missions. Not for the risk of altering history, but... Hearing Prompto-san's story... I wanted to hear more of them. I wanted to hear about his world. I wanted to protect him, so he would be able to be welcomed home by his friends.

[He lowers his head.]

[ . . . hmmm. higekiri's expression softens at that. the truth is that he doesn't know if he'd feel the same - there is a sadness whenever a human passes, certainly, but could he feel as strongly as his brother...? is higekir's heart open for that - and if it is, would he want to accept it, knowing the pain that comes in hand?]

Even knowing how painful the loss could be... will you still reach out to the people here?

[It’s a tough decision. The feelings tumbling inside of him are so very strange; in his chest, in his mind. Wouldn’t it be easier to continue being distant, learning about no one else? His lashes lower slightly.

He nods.

Sitting by his master’s side, by the cushion. He was so gentle then, like a lapdog waiting by its master’s feet just as company.]

I want to protect them, too, elder brother. I want them to tell me... what it’s like to be human.
