[ he follows without any protest, waiting patiently for hizamaru to find the picture. and once he does, kanesan leans back from it, mild alarm in his eyes. sure, it's only a picture, but... ]
You're right, that is pretty scary. It looks like a mount the Revisionists would use.
[ DISLIKE. ]
That's... disappointing. It would have been nice to be able to speak to Prompto and the others. [ and this is where he'll turn away from the books to look at hizamaru for a moment before asking: ] How are you doing, after everything?
[APPARENTLY, some spiracorns are kind of docile or to themselves, but Hizamaru would never believe that even if Prompto had told him. His hands and the magazine falter some at the question. He frowns, but it's a gentle thing, and he glances at the bracelet still on his wrist.]
I'm okay. I miss Prompto-san's company, but... I know he's okay wherever they are. Carlos-san said he would give Prompto-san a message for me, and I received a reply.
[ a nod, and kanesan gives him a small, reassuring smile. ]
I'm glad you have that, even if we can't communicate with them directly. But if there is a way to bring them back, we will find it. Trust me on that, Hizamaru.
I’ve been thinking about that, too. I’ve learned that some of the places the people here come from have multiple timelines to live in, so it may not be such a problem for them, but for those of us with only one…
[ he shakes his head. ]
Though if that’s possible at all, then you have to wonder how being here affects our own world’s history. I’ve never known anything like this to be possible - summoning us without our master’s magic to a place that none of us have been before, for people to die and still find ways to communicate with us - so where does that leave us?
[The whole Ordeal. On top of literally everything else that's happening on this accursed ship.]
I believed our mission here was to stop the demons Polly-san had unleashed, but... now I'm unsure. There is something... bigger. Something more. I just haven't been able to figure out how to help others searching for answers.
If it really is some sort of time loop, then there is definitely more to it than just defeating the demons. We just have to figure out what that is, but it’s… easier said than done.
[ kanesan hesitates then, but after a moment - ]
There may be one thing you can do. But you’ll have to keep it secret, for now.
[ kanesan offers him a smile. hizamaru is a good sword, one they can all count on. ]
Toward the end of our second week here, I received a handwritten note. The problem is that, apparently, I am the only one here who can read it, so I can't show it to someone else to ask if they recognize it. I need to see it myself.
Do you think you could help me find writing samples, for the people here with us?
[At first, he looks surprised, and then his brows narrow in mild bewilderment.]
The handwriting of people here? I... can try. I have Prompto-san's, but... He isn't with us anymore, so I'm not sure if it would be any help like the others.
Are you... able to tell me what the note says? I only ask because... Tonbokiri-san and I received a note last week, but we haven't tried to show anyone else yet.
I couldn't say... It might be worth seeing his handwriting, if only to confirm that it wasn't him. That is, if you don't mind showing me.
[ he's aware that it might be something private, and he doesn't want to force hiza. ]
It said, "Some fucker doxxed me." Junpei said that means to someone's private information against their will. There are a few people I've confirmed who didn't write it, just not many yet.
Was your note handwritten, too? I wonder if we could compare them.
[Putting the books out of the way, he shifts to get a folded piece of paper out of his pocket while Kanesan speaks. His brows knot together again. "Some fucker doxxed me"? WILD.]
Our note wasn't done in any handwriting, no. [A small sigh. He thought he had been onto something.] Our note said, "They are not as they sound." We thought, at first, it was about the strange shoes with wheels we had received, but... there wasn't anything peculiar about the shoes aside from that--the wheels.
[Reluctantly, he hands the paper out to Kanesan. When it's opened, he'll see a few different lines of things written in Prompto's hand:]
hey want to go on a date I want to keep holding your hand I want to take you to see the stars in my world some day.
Hey Hizamaru, remember how I told you about dating? I was wondering if you would like to try it with me. I really like you
[There's a mark at the end as if something else is going to be written, but that's the end of it.]
"They are not as they sound..." The demons, maybe? Whatever the case, keep those shoes safe, if you can. There's still a possibility it could be important later, like all of the things we found in the first week.
[ that said... he looks over the note, more glancing over it than actually reading it. it's private, and all he really needs is the style, after all. but after a moment, he shakes his head. ]
It's not Prompto's writing, either, but that just means we'll have to keep looking.
[But he's glad that the note doesn't match Prompto's handwriting, or things may be more confusing.] We'll take care of the shoes. You can talk to Tonbokiri-san if you need to, though... I'm not sure how much help either of us will be. [His brows stay low and together.]
Elder brother isn't sure what it means either, but wondered if it was the voice we hear throughout the ship. It's strange... to say "sound" instead of "seem," isn't it? Not as they sound...
[ ...oh. it's clear that thought had never even occurred to kanesan, with how his eyes widen momentarily. ]
That's true... It's a very deliberate choice of words, isn't it? Given that it isn't a voice any of us recognize, but the announcements are calling us all by name, and the time loop theory...
It could be a way of disguising who the one that recorded these announcements is.
Mm. Or the other voices, the one telling the strange story. Perhaps those. Or... I'm not sure. At first, I believed it could be Chuuya-san, and Carlos-san, and Polly-san, and Nathan-san.
[He shakes his head.]
We'll find out. I haven't spoken with Tonbokiri-san again yet. He may have found out something, too.

Right. We won’t find out much if we don’t work as a team, and bring everything we’ve found so far together.
Will you let me know if you learn anything else, Hizamaru?

[To this, he nods.]
I'll let you know if I find anything else. You can count on me.
