[He's at least not eating pot brownies anymore, so Kanesan doesn't have to suffer him being high as a fucking kite. (Also, no stupid heelys.) Small miracles.
When not getting into messes with other people, he's actually spending quite a good bit of time in the library wandering around with one or two books under his arm. Kanesan is a nice distraction, so he hails:]
[ shame he didn't get to see the heelys... but that's not what one comes to library for, probably. one comes for poetry, and... being called by your comrades, i guess? sure. ]
[ ...ah. he should have known. but all he does is nod, and the smile he's wearing doesn't fade at all. ]
Chuuya gave me a copy of his poetry when we first arrived. I'm glad it's not the only one. I've never seen the pictures Prompto took, though... Will you show me?
I'm unsure... what happened to the small device inside Prompto-san's camera, but... Later, when this is over, if you see him and he has it, ask him to show you. [He shifts the books up into his arms.] I'll show you.
He said there are creatures in his world called chocobos. And spiracorns. I wanted to show him horses. He said he had never seen them.
[As bewildered as Kanesan, he just shrugs and shakes his head.] He showed me a picture of... something almost like a horse. It was... somewhat terrifying, however. He called it a spiracorn. Here. [He turns to lead them to a couch nearby, placing the book and magazine down and motioning for Kanesan to join him and sit.
He'll sit after, and he takes up the magazine to flip through, searching.
I don't think Chuuya-san or Carlos-san can give him one... Chuuya-san says he doesn't have anything to do with the other side, with them. Carlos-san wasn't able to take Prompto-san a gift when I went to deliver a message.
[ he follows without any protest, waiting patiently for hizamaru to find the picture. and once he does, kanesan leans back from it, mild alarm in his eyes. sure, it's only a picture, but... ]
You're right, that is pretty scary. It looks like a mount the Revisionists would use.
[ DISLIKE. ]
That's... disappointing. It would have been nice to be able to speak to Prompto and the others. [ and this is where he'll turn away from the books to look at hizamaru for a moment before asking: ] How are you doing, after everything?
[APPARENTLY, some spiracorns are kind of docile or to themselves, but Hizamaru would never believe that even if Prompto had told him. His hands and the magazine falter some at the question. He frowns, but it's a gentle thing, and he glances at the bracelet still on his wrist.]
I'm okay. I miss Prompto-san's company, but... I know he's okay wherever they are. Carlos-san said he would give Prompto-san a message for me, and I received a reply.
[ a nod, and kanesan gives him a small, reassuring smile. ]
I'm glad you have that, even if we can't communicate with them directly. But if there is a way to bring them back, we will find it. Trust me on that, Hizamaru.
I’ve been thinking about that, too. I’ve learned that some of the places the people here come from have multiple timelines to live in, so it may not be such a problem for them, but for those of us with only one…
[ he shakes his head. ]
Though if that’s possible at all, then you have to wonder how being here affects our own world’s history. I’ve never known anything like this to be possible - summoning us without our master’s magic to a place that none of us have been before, for people to die and still find ways to communicate with us - so where does that leave us?
[The whole Ordeal. On top of literally everything else that's happening on this accursed ship.]
I believed our mission here was to stop the demons Polly-san had unleashed, but... now I'm unsure. There is something... bigger. Something more. I just haven't been able to figure out how to help others searching for answers.
[He hunts down Kanesan over the island wherever the other sword happens to be hiding right now. The only thing different about him is that his own sword has... a cord wrapped around the guard that stretches down to the sheathe? Looks like a safety knot.]
[ it's a little hard not to notice when something has changed about one's sword when you yourself are a sword, isn't it? he eyes the cord for a moment before looking up to meet hiza's eyes, curious. ]
Hizamaru. Is that the sageo you wanted for your brother?
[Standing a bit straighter, he seems a tad embarrassed for a moment at trying to still desperately be a part of big brother's life.]
I felt as if... it were fair this way. I cannot ask that of him and not also hold myself to the same standard. [He glances up.] Did you speak to Chuuya-san...?
[ kanesan isn't judging. if he could find a connection back to kunihiro, he would cling to it just as strongly. ]
I understand. Don't worry - even if our plans fail this time, we'll keep trying, until we find a way. You'll find your way back to him someday, I promise.
[ ...hm. while hizamaru looks up, kanesan will be averting his eyes. ]
Yes, I did. He couldn't hear what I said about the ritual and our options there, but what he did say... [ he shakes his head. ] There isn't anything we can do from here, but I'm worried for him.
[The closer it gets to Saturday, the less optimism he's beginning to have. Everything is just... going slowly downhill, snowballing. He looks over Kanesan's face carefully, frowning.]
I am, too. When I saw him, he was... [His brows furrow.] Something was happening. He would not tell me what. He couldn't.
[ one hand goes to his sword, as if to seek what little comfort it can give him. ]
I asked if he did something like Polly, when she disappeared before. He said it was something similar, so I'm... expecting the demons to come for him, sometime.
We've seen that our hosts can't die the way we do, but I still don't want anything like that to happen to him.
I thought so, too. [The frown doesn't leave. His eyes linger on Kanesan's sword, and he has the strange urge to hold his own, too, but he doesn't.] I asked him what had happened, if it was like Polly-san, and he said I would be able to figure it out.
He said they were going to assist us... but I fear it will be dangerous.
Anything we try to do that goes against what the demons want will be dangerous, Hizamaru. I would rather have their help than not... Chuuya and the rest hate feeling powerless just as much as the rest of us.
[ that doesn't stop him from sighing, though. ]
I wonder, though, if there is a limit to how many times they can be revived before the demons grow tired of their interference.
I know. [It's hard. Like he has grow maybe a little bit of a backbone, but then his voice softens again.] I... I do not wish for them to be stuck on this side with us, however. It isn't the day the demons usually mount their attack, but Zero-san is here, and...
[ expression softening, he looks back. he knows this anger, the pain of worry, so it's not something he can fault hizamaru for. ]
...I know. I don't want them to be trapped here, either - I was hoping to have their help from the other side.
The best laid plans always seem to go wrong at the worst time, don't they? Perhaps it was foolish to assume they could only kill according to the schedule they'd set before... It is their own game, after all.
I don't know what we can do to help them, except try our best on this side to break the rules they've given us. Prompto is right in that we shouldn't take what they say at face value.
[ but what does that leave them with? what can they do? kanesan feels powerless in this, as just a sword. ]
week three, weds

Izuminokami Kanesada-san!

Yo, Hizamaru! Catching up on your reading, eh?

There is a book with pictures of creatures Prompto-san had on his camera. And... another one with poetry written by Chuuya-san.

[ and why does kanesan sound mildly offended by this. whatever the reason, he will gladly look at the books hizamaru has to offer. ]
There are books with horses too, right? Can we ask Chuuya or Carlos to bring one to him?

I'm wondering if... we're meant to bring them back, or simply continue forward with the mission. I don't know if it's a history we should change.

I asked Chuuya-san. He said he would try, perhaps Friday. I had to show him how it was done. I decided... to keep it for now.
[Like a kind of respectable honor--if his brother has one, he should have one, too.]
no subject
He will do everything in his power to help. He hasn't let us down before.
[ he smiles. ]
Made to match, I presume? How fitting, for the two of you to remain connected, even if we're worlds apart.
